Korean Men's Gymnastics Team Second Medal Challenge
Korean Men's Gymnastics Team Second Consecutive Medal Challenge, with 'Landing' the Key
Individual all-around Lee Jun-ho and Maru exercise Kim Han-sol and Ryu Seong-hyeon, 3 people compete as individuals.
Women's national team competes in team event for the first time in 36 years... Yeo Seo-jeong aims for bronze medal or higher.
The Korean men's and women's gymnastics teams will be heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics with a completely different atmosphere.
The men's national team, which had competed in the team event with 12 countries eight times in a row from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, failed to qualify for the main event this time.
The women's national team, which was on the periphery instead of the men's national team, has won the Olympic team event ticket for the first time in 36 years and is heading to Paris. 메이저사이트
The women's national team consists of Yeo Seo-jeong (Jecheon City Hall), Lee Yun-seo (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office), Shin Sol-i (Gangwon Provincial Sports Council), Lee Da-yeong (Korea National Sport University), and Eom Do-hyeon (Jeju Samdasoo).
Since they got on the last train to the Olympics in 12th place, their first goal in the main competition is to raise their ranking.
Three male athletes qualified for the Olympics as individuals.
Lee Jun-ho (Cheonan City Hall) was the first to confirm his trip to Paris as an individual all-around specialist, and Ryu Seong-hyeon (Korea National Sport University) received an Olympic ticket by taking first place in the floor exercise ranking points of this year's International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) World Cup Series.
The Korea Gymnastics Association nominated Kim Han-sol (Seoul City Hall) as the winner of one ticket allocated by FIG to each National Olympic Committee (NOC).
Three years ago at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Korean gymnastics won two medals with Shin Jae-hwan's surprise gold medal in the men's vault and Yeo Seo-jeong's bronze medal in the women's vault, and this time, they are looking for three medals in the men's floor exercise, men's vault, and women's vault.
Ryu Seong-hyeon, who came in fourth in the floor exercise at the Tokyo Olympics, and Kim Han-sol, who won the floor exercise at the Asian Games for two consecutive times, are candidates for medals in the floor exercise.
The association expects that Lee Jun-ho, an individual all-around athlete who competes in all six events of floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar, will also be able to win a medal if he advances to the vault finals where eight people compete.
Yeo Seo-jeong, who is performing on the Olympic stage for the second consecutive time, is aiming for a bronze medal or better in her main event, vault.
The success or failure of floor exercise and vault depends on the landing, which refers to the movement of landing on the mat after performing an aerial rotation.
The men's floor exercise is an event that determines how agilely and smoothly the athlete performs and accurately expresses the basic gymnastics techniques on a 12㎡, high-elasticity floor for 70 seconds.
Aerial rotation and handstand stops must also be performed without fail.
Yeo Hong-chul, executive director of the Korea Gymnastics Association, explained, "There are five scenes of landing after an aerial rotation in floor exercise performances," and "If one foot is misaligned when landing, 0.3 points are deducted.
Since they have to land five times, it means they go back and forth 1.5 points."
He continued, "If the landing foot moves even slightly, points are deducted," and predicted, "The winning or losing is determined by a point or so in the landing alone.
Ultimately, the color of the medal is determined based on the athlete's condition and landing skills on the day of the floor exercise finals."
Director Yeo, who won a silver medal in the vault at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and became the first Korean female gymnast to win an Olympic medal, said, "Seo Jeong had been struggling with injuries to her shoulders and joints, but she is now much better," and predicted, "If she doesn't get injured, I think she will be able to win a medal this time too."
Yeo will compete for a medal in the vault with Simone Biles (USA), who is already considered one of the greatest gymnasts in history.
Biles, who overcame a mental breakdown due to extreme stress, is aiming for at least four gold medals in the team event, individual all-around, floor exercise, and vault, her main events, at the Paris Olympics.
Gymnastics is divided into artistic gymnastics (14), rhythmic gymnastics (2), and trampoline (2), and there are a total of 18 gold medals at stake.
Only artistic gymnasts from our country can compete on the Paris Olympic stage.
In gymnastics, the finalists for each event are determined based on the results of the preliminary team event.
Even if you compete as an individual, you can advance to the finals for each event if you receive a high score in the preliminary team event where you are paired with athletes from other countries.
Gymnastics begins on the 27th, the day after the opening of the Olympics, and ends on August 5th.
