Macau's new baccarat side bets on offer during May hols
A new 'Small 6/Big 6' baccarat side bet, which pays attractive payments to winning customers but has the potential to boost home advantage overall, was being used in the Macau market on Thursday. The new side bet could be offered without the need for Macau casino operators to use the so-called 'smart' table.
In addition, so-called "baccara insurance" bets - hedge bets with high home prices - have been proven by some players on MGM China Holdings Ltd's properties. The company says such bets are difficult to offer without the use of smart tables, which MGM China describes as an early adopter of these technologies.
Thursday was the second day of the May 5 holiday in mainland China, with many tourists in the city and in the new Kotai casino area.
The busiest live dealer baccarat games (a favorite casino entertainment by Chinese players) at Macau-Penando casinos were mostly tickets ranging from HK$1,000 (roughly HK$128) to HK$1,500 (roughly HK$1,500).
The lowest-priced public market baccarat game seen by GGRAsia was the HKD300 on the third floor of Grand Lisboa at SJM Holdings Ltd.
At 11:10 a.m. in downtown Grand Lisboa (pictured below), on the first floor of the main mass game area, there was a baccarat between HK$1,000 and HK$2,000, the most popular of which was HK$1,500.
The live-dealer baccarat area, separated from the main floor, had tables of HK$1,000 to HK$2,000 but few players.
The Phoenix Pavilion above the mezzanine had a handful of tables of HK$2,000, HK$3,000 and HK$5,000 but again few players.
