RFKR Submits Year Extension Bid for S.Korea Casino Construction Plan
R&F Korea (RFKR), the founder of the leisure complex under construction in Korea, which has a casino dedicated to foreigners, has asked the local authorities to postpone the release date anew.
GGRAsia has been identified by RFKR and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, respectively, a company linked to Hong Kong-listed Guangzhou R&F Properties Co. Ltd.
The existing opening deadline for the plan (file photo), located on Yeongjong Island near Incheon International Airport, is March 17. Applications for an extension to March 17, 2024 for its opening were made on Tuesday (Jan. 31).
A foreign ministry official told GGRAsia by phone that a decision will likely be made within 90 days, or by May 1. As a result, in the interim period, the current deadline will be allowed to expire.
An RFKR official told GGRAsia on Tuesday that the company would act "sincerely" when explaining what progress the company has made on the project in its follow-up with the Treasury.
Incheon City Council member Shin Seong-young, a politician in the district where the RFKR site is located, told a plenary session of parliament on Tuesday that he was opposed to extending the new timetable, subject to online streaming and surveillance by the GGRA. This would be the fourth time, according to an earlier public statement.
Shin said RFKR's further extension was "meaningless" due to "financial difficulties" at Chinese parent Guangzhou R&F.
